Mar del Plata: meeting to evaluate and strengthen the implementation of 100% smokefree environments
The City Council of Mar del Plata organized an event to show the results of the enforcement of a local 100% smokefree ordinance. This meeting took place on April 24th, one year after the Ordinance was passed in the City. The local experience was analyzed by comparison with other localities that have enacted similar legislation.
Tandil is now 100% smokefree
The Municipality of Tandil, Province of Buenos Aires, enacted an Ordinance that sets forth 199% smokefree environments in all indoor venues with public access, with no exceptions. Thanks to this Ordinance, Tandil has now joined the numerous jurisdictions that protect the health of their population from exposure to second-hand smoke.
Enforcement of health warning labels in tobacco packs and point-of-sale advertising
On April 23rd, the Ministry of Health of Argentina issued a Resolution that sets forth large, pictorial health warning labels on tobacco packs and on all permitted forms of tobacco advertising (i.e. point-of-sale). This measure has been proven effective to protect the right to health and it puts into practice one of the main provisions included in the Federal Tobacco Control Law (Act Nº 26687).
